MERCY CRUMB
Raised as a free-spirited hippie kid before becoming a church kid almost overnight, she spent a lifetime searching for an explanation for why she could not bring herself to trust the God she claimed to believe in.
Even while convinced of her own sincerity, she kept the evidence at arm’s length, guarding against the very thing she was seeking.
After years of resisting the relationship she longed for, she found herself entangled with the same God she had resisted—the One who kept showing up unannounced in sacred and ridiculous ways.
Does divine Love still reach?
PATCHWORK KISSES
At eighty, Audrey Collins is sharp, witty, opinionated—and trapped inside a body devastated by a stroke. Fully aware but unable to make herself understood, she has only days to live and plenty to say about the people who keep assuming her silence means she isn’t there.
A patchwork quilt beneath her fingers becomes a doorway. A worn square, a familiar scent, a photograph, a voice—and suddenly Audrey is back inside the kisses, losses, absurdities, heartbreaks, and secrets of a life fully lived.
Some kisses are ordinary. Some change everything.
In the end, what does a full life hold?
THE PORCHPYTERIANS
When cicadas are the only thing louder than the sweltering Missouri heat, the front porch becomes the only place to wait it out.
Longtime family friend Meg rushes to Rocky Lake Cabins after a tearful call from Erica, the pregnant young woman she has loved like a daughter for nearly twenty years. Erica’s grandfather has suffered a devastating stroke, drawing a fractured family back to the porch after years of avoiding one another.
As grief strips away old defenses, buried resentments erupt, old wounds reopen, and the family is forced to face the truths they have left unsaid.
See you on the porch!
Just Meg.
Pretty much, I'm just me.
I’m a writer living in southern Missouri, and I am blessed to be able to catch a glimpse of the extraordinary in the very ordinary every now and then. I like to tell stories that invite readers to look past what they first see—to take a second look and realize maybe they weren’t seeing the whole picture. I love the wonder sitting right there inside of everyday life, and I take great delight in how the sacred and ridiculous coexist.
I live in jeans and T-shirts. Flannel when the chill sets in. Right now, I don't even own a dress. I have no patience for pretense. I value honesty and loyalty most, probably because I want to see what is truly there. I just wish everybody would be real. I’m instinctively curious, which isn’t always a good thing, but it does mean I tend to notice what people say, what they don’t say, and the little things happening around the edges.
I live with the love of my life, John, and a crème buff cat who purrs while he’s trying to chew through electric cords. And yes, they can drive me crazy sometimes. I occasionally refer to my husband as BB — Biscuit Brain. You know, a bit dense sometimes, a little dry and crusty around the edges. Besides John and Watson Boy—meow, everything really is elementary,—I love moonlight, acorns, falling leaves, and all things Autumn. Let's not forget the pumpkin pie.
I always knew I would write a book one day. I’m beyond grateful that mine was one you chose to read. I’m so glad you joined me between the pages.
You’re always welcome here.
